Dating over 110 years old, this gorgeous hand chased sterling silver needle case was ornately designed with ivy leaves (the Victorian love language for friendship, affection, and wedded love). A century ago women would wear decorative chains on their belts that dangled with beautifully designed everyday tools such as sewing tapes, thimble holders, needle cases, pads of paper, mirrors, and other household tools. These decorative collections were called chatelaines and exquisite pieces were made in solid sterling silver or gold. This beautiful, antique sterling silver bauble was once part of an Edwardian chatelaine. The lid of this stunning and generously sized case opens to reveal a gilded interior ready to hold a love note, a special message or announcement, a photograph, tiny treasure, or perhaps a proposal. The pendant is fully hallmarked on both the body and the lid and dangles from a new sterling silver patterned chain as a timeless sterling silver necklace with a story and so much charm.
Necklace Chain Length: 30 inches
Chatelaine Pendant: 6 cm x 2 cm (a little over 2 1/4 inches)
Hallmarks: maker's mark, an anchor for Birmingham, England's assay office, a lion passant for solid sterling silver, and the date letter "d" for 1903

Caring for your jewelry:
Precious metals such as silver need to be polished from time to time (with the exception of oxidized sterling silver- which does not need to be polished). To extend the time between the polishing of your bright silver, your may store your design in a air tight bag. When your piece does need polishing, I recommend Sunshine sterling silver polishing cloths. If you would like to purchase a cloth, please email me through Etsy or at TforEdgar@me.com and I will set up a custom listing for you. The cost of the cloth is $4. (No shipping will be added if you purchase the cloth with another item.)
