Queen Victoria popularized both the locket and symbolism in the realm of jewelry during her lifetime (1819 - 1901). This locket is an excellent example of Victorian jewelry as it features gorgeous hand engraved ivy leaves which represent wedded love, fidelity, friendship and affection as well as a belt buckle which represents eternity. (Like a belt once buckled love has no end.) The back of the locket is fully hallmarked for Birmingham England, sterling silver, and the year 1883. True to genuine antique silver lockets, this locket is, also, hallmarked on inside of the front so that both halves are shown to be pure sterling. The antique locket is ready to be a part of your own history. The locket opens to reveal two places ready to hold you beloved photographs or a small memento. The locket is set on a long drawn cable chain of sterling silver hand finished with a lobster clasp and ring.
Necklace chain length: 26 inches
Antique Locket (oval only): 41mm x 52mm (a little over 2 inches) (2 3/4 inches with bail)
UK Hallmarks: Maker's Mark, Lion Passant for sterling silver, the assay mark for Birmingham England, and the Date letter "i" for 1883

Caring for your jewelry:
Precious metals such as silver need to be polished from time to time (with the exception of oxidized sterling silver- which does not need to be polished). To extend the time between the polishing of your bright silver, your may store your design in a air tight bag. When your piece does need polishing, I recommend Sunshine sterling silver polishing cloths. If you would like to add a polishing cloth to your order, please contact me through Etsy and I will customize a listing for you. The cost of the cloth is $4.
